Fineland
2018 / 2022

Fine Land reflects on the small and large impact of technology and fossil fuels in a natural and social landscape. In our increasingly fast-paced world, comics can succinctly communicate information and evoke emotional responses, often by simultaneously depicting multiple narratives and balancing levity with seriousness. The red and black landscape that the artist presents us portraits references to indigenous culture, migration, natural resources, and industries through the familiar language of graphic novels and the use of visual metaphors. Multiple stories can be told from this environment and the animal characters like the ant carrying a grain of corn, prairie dogs wearing bullet-proof vests or an armadillo wearing an armor can remind us that the earth’s landscape is common.
